Neeraj Chopra qualifies for World Championships final in first attempt

India’s javelin ace Neeraj Chopra once again stamped his authority on the global stage, effortlessly booking his place in the men’s javelin final at the World Athletics Championships. Competing at Tokyo’s National Stadium, the Olympic champion cleared the automatic qualification mark of 84.50m with ease, producing a massive 84.85m throw on his very first attempt. His performance ensured he did not need a second try, securing a direct entry into the final.

Chopra’s rise over the past few years has been nothing short of remarkable. After winning silver in Eugene in 2022, he made history in Budapest in 2023 by becoming India’s first-ever world champion in javelin. Now, arriving in Tokyo with a gold medal around his neck and a growing reputation as one of athletics’ biggest stars, Chopra carries the weight of expectations from millions of fans.

Defending a world title, however, is always a daunting task. The men’s javelin field remains one of the most competitive events, with tough contenders from Germany, the Czech Republic, and his fierce rival Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan all gunning for glory. To retain his crown, Chopra will need to summon his very best when it matters most in the final.
