Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday, March 21, said that the Northeast region is largely peaceful, and ever since the Modi government came to power, a new era of development has been ushered in.
Replying to a debate in the Rajya Sabha on the working of the Home Ministry, Shah said, “After our government came to power, we spoke with all armed outfits in the Northeast. From 2019 till date, 12 important peace accords have been signed, and 10,900 youth have given up arms and joined the mainstream. I was recently in Bodoland, where thousands of youth are now walking the path of development.”
Shah also mentioned that the government has a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism, asserting that Naxalism will end in India by March 2026.
“When the BJP came to power in Chhattisgarh in December 2023, 380 Naxals were killed in just one year, with 30 Naxals killed yesterday, not included in this count. 1,194 were arrested, and 1,045 surrendered. The number of active Naxals went down by 2,619. In these operations, 26 security personnel lost their lives. This is the same Chhattisgarh, the same police, the same CRPF, and the same Government of India. The only difference was that there was a Congress government in power before. This is a question of approach,” Shah said in Parliament.
The Union Minister further stated that the Narendra Modi government has fulfilled the dream of the architects of the Constitution by abrogating Article 370.
