The New York author E. Jean Carroll who claims Donald Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the 1990s testified in graphic detail about the alleged assault on the second day of the trial over her lawsuit. Carroll, a journalist and former Elle magazine advice columnist, says she kept silent about the alleged attack for decades out of fear that Trump would destroy her if she went public. In Manhattan federal court, she testified that she filed the suit to set the record straight. "I am here because Donald Trump raped me, and when I wrote about it he said it didn't happen," Carroll said under questioning by her lawyer. She further, "He shattered my reputation and I'm trying to get my life back." The case comes just weeks after Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 counts related to a hush-money payment made to a porn star just before the 2016 election.
