India dethroned Australia in the ICC Test rankings to become the top team in the world, right ahead of the World Test Championship Final, set to be played after the completion of the Indian Premier League. 

The International Cricket Council announced the development on Tuesday, May2, and said that India had taken over the top spot due to the annual rankings update, which changes weighage for older matches. 

Australia, who were at the top position with 122 points, despite their 1-2 loss against Indian in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, were brought down in the update and now hold the second place in the ICC Test rankings. 

This marks the end of Australia's domination as the top Test team in the world, where they stayed for 15 months.
