India’s fastest female runner and the reigning 100m national champion Dutee Chand has been put under provisional suspension after testing positive for prohibited substances.
The positive test resulted from an out-of-competition testing procedure. Dutee tested positive for Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs), a class of therapeutic compounds with anabolic properties similar to anabolic steroids but with lower androgenic (producing male characteristics) properties.
Dutee competed in the National Games in Gujarat from September to October 2022. She competed in the 200-meter dash but did not advance to the final. She also took bronze in the Asian Championships in 2013, 2017, and 2019.
