‘My First Preference Is Indian Foreign Services’: Assam’s Mayur Hazarika After Securing 5th Rank In UPSC Exam 2022

In a remarkable achievement, Mayur Hazarika from Assam made it to the Top 10 list in the recently held Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2022. Hazarika secured 5th position in the coveted exam – the highest-ever rank secured by any candidate from Assam.

Hazarika, who hails from Tezpur, is a doctor by profession and is currently posted in Nagaon district of Assam. While speaking to ND24, Hazarika said that his first preference will be Indian Foreign Services (IFS).

“I am extremely happy with the result…I did not expect to get such a good rank. I am satisfied with the result. My first preference is IFS,” he said.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to congratulate Hazarika and wrote, “Heartiest congratulations Mayur Hazarika for your outstanding performance in the 2022 #UPSC examination (sic).”

“At 5th rank, the highest ever from Assam, your achievement is sterling and will inspire our youth to aspire for the best. Well done, and my blessings (sic),” the CM further wrote.

Hazarika had secured 10th position in the Assam HSLC 2013 Examination and 9th position in the Assam HS 2015 Examination. He had completed his Higher secondary studies from the Ramanujan Junior College in Nagaon. Later, Hazarika got his MBBS degree from the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, Assam. 

This year, a total number of 933 candidates have been recommended for appointment to – IAS, IFS, IPS, Central Services, Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’. This year too, women dominated the top positions with Ishita Kishore securing AIR 1 followed by Garima Lohia, Uma Harathi N and Smriti Mishra.
