PM Narendra Modi was welcomed by US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden at the White House during his first official State visit. The leaders exchanged gifts during an intimate dinner hosted by Biden for PM Modi. PM Modi brought a variety of gifts for Joe and Jill Biden. As the official gifts, the PM Modi gave a handcrafted sandalwood box to Biden, and a 7.5 carat eco-friendly green diamond to the First Lady. A special sandalwood box handcrafted by a master craftsman from Jaipur in Rajasthan was gifted by PM Modi to Joe Biden. The box contained a silver idol of Ganesha, an oil lamp, a copper plate, and 10 silver boxes that contained symbols - Das Danam or the ten donations. The idol of Ganesha was handcrafted by a family of fifth-generation silversmiths from Kolkata, a diya (oil lamp), the copper plate, also called tampra-patra from Uttar Pradesh, a delicately handcrafted silver coconut by the skilled artisans of West Bengal is offered in place of a Cow for Gaudaan (donation of cow), a fragrant piece of sandalwood, til or white sesame seeds, 24K pure and hallmarked gold coin, Ghee or clarified butter sourced from Punjab, a handwoven textured tussar silk cloth, long-grained rice, jaggery, 99.5 per cent pure and hallmarked silver coin, lavan or salt from Gujarat. Moreover, the PM Modi also gifted Joe a copy of the first edition print of the book 'The Ten Principal Upanishads'. On the other hand, Modi received a handmade, antique American book galley from the Bidens. The first couple also gifted him a vintage American camera, a hardcover book of American wildlife photography and a signed, first edition copy of 'Collected Poems of Robert Frost. PM Modi is the third Indian to be invited for a state visit, seen as the highest form of expression of friendly ties and is reserved only for closest allies.
