Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Wednesday, January 18, accused Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment.
Phogat also alleged that she was subjected to mental harassment by Singh, adding she had contemplated suicide. The Asian Games and Commonwealth Games gold medalist said that she was silenced in the past for speaking out against sexual harassment. According to reports, Phogat also has faced death threats for complaining against Singh. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is also a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) from Kaiserganj, Uttar Pradesh.
Moreover, Rio Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik, who won the Commonwealth Games gold medal last year, said that she was at the protest site as the face of many young wrestlers who were not able to join them.
