Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding 'The Kerala Story', Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma watched the film with his Cabinet ministers and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs. He lauded the film for what it portrays and urged people to watch it, "particularly along with their daughters". "The Kerala Story exposes terrorism and throws light on what is going on inside terrorist camps in the name of jihad and religion," CM Sarma said after watching the film. Taking to Twitter, Sarma wrote, “Today I went to see the #KeralaStory along with my Cabinet colleagues. Everyone should see this film with their daughter, it is my humble request (sic).”The film narrates a story of religious conversion in Kerala and some young girls being recruited by terror group ISIS. ‘The Kerala Story’ landed in controversy ever since its trailer released, with critics claiming it vilifies Muslims as a community.
