Union Minister Amit Shah said that efforts to save people from the Air India plane crash failed as the temperature rose to extreme levels due to the burning of 1.25 lakh litres of fuel on the aircraft.
Shah spoke to the media after he visited the crash site, alongwith Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
“There was around 1.25 lakh litres of fuel on the aircraft. The temperature was also very high. Because of which there was no chance to save anyone,” Amit Shah told reporters.
Flight AI-171 crashed on a government hospital hostel near Ahemdabad’s Sardar Vallabbhai Patel International Airport, leaving a field of debris and scenes of devastation.
Shah also said that DNA samples of the victims have also been collected of the 1,000 such tests to be conducted. “The central and state Forensic Science Labs will work on this. We don’t need to go out,” he added. “Final death toll will only be known once the DNA tests are done”.
