Shreyas Iyer picked up a spleen injury when he fell while taking a spectacular catch of Alex Carey in the third ODI against Australia in Sydney.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a second medical update on star batter Shreyas Iyer, who suffered an abdominal injury during the third ODI against Australia on October 25. The Board confirmed that Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding, but his condition has since stabilized.

In an official statement, the BCCI said the injury was promptly identified, and immediate medical intervention helped arrest the internal bleeding. “His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation,” the statement noted. The Board emphasized that Iyer is receiving constant medical care and monitoring.

A repeat scan conducted on October 28 showed significant improvement in the cricketer’s condition. The BCCI added that Iyer is “on the road to recovery,” and his progress is being closely monitored by the BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India.
