A Pakistani woman's name has appeared on Bihar's voter list, prompting its removal process.

A surprising case has emerged during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in poll-bound Bihar, where a Pakistani woman who arrived in India in 1956 was found on the state’s voter list. The inclusion was even verified during the recent exercise conducted by the Election Commission of India, raising questions about the accuracy of voter records.

The case came to light during a Home Ministry investigation into foreign nationals overstaying in India. The woman, identified as Imrana Khanam from Bhagalpur, has lived in India for decades, but her presence on the voter list drew attention due to her Pakistani nationality.

Booth-level officer Farzana Khanam, who handled the matter, said the elderly woman was unwell and unable to communicate. “As per the department’s orders, I filled out the form and began the process of removing her name. Her passport is from 1956, and she received her visa in 1958. She is from Pakistan. The next step of the investigation will be carried out by the department,” she explained, confirming that the Home Ministry had issued a notice on 11 August.
