Indian Railways is undertaking a major revamp of its Passenger Reservation System (PRS), which currently has the capacity to process 25,000 ticket bookings per minute, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha.
In a written reply, Vaishnaw said that capacity enhancement and technological upgradation are continuous processes for the Railways. The ongoing overhaul covers hardware and software upgrades, improved network equipment, enhanced security systems, and new functionalities, all built on advanced technology designed to support future features.
The minister also pointed to recent strides in mobile ticketing. With the launch of the RailOne App, passengers can now conveniently book both reserved and unreserved tickets through their smartphones, further streamlining the ticketing process.
