The Made-in-India BEVs will be exported to more than one hundred countries, including advanced markets such as Europe and Japan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, August 26, inaugurated Maruti Suzuki’s first global Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the e-VITARA, at the Hansalpur manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The vehicle is set to be exported to over 100 countries, including Japan and several European markets.

During the event, PM Modi also inaugurated the localised production of hybrid battery electrodes at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant, a joint venture between Suzuki, Toshiba, and Denso. The development ensures that over 80% of the battery value chain is now manufactured in India, strengthening the country’s domestic EV ecosystem.

Calling the occasion “special” for India’s journey toward self-reliance and green mobility, PM Modi highlighted that the e-VITARA’s exports showcase India’s growing capabilities in the electric vehicle sector.

The launch aligns with India’s broader goal of promoting sustainable transportation and reducing dependence on fossil fuels, reinforcing the country’s position in the global EV market.
