Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, September 14, inaugurated a Rs 5,000-crore bamboo-based ethanol plant at Numaligarh in Assam’s Golaghat district. The facility, described as a ‘zero-waste’ plant, will utilise every part of the bamboo and is expected to provide a ₹200-crore boost to Assam’s rural economy, officials said.

The plant will source five lakh tonnes of green bamboo annually from four northeastern states, creating direct and indirect benefits for over 50,000 people. It is being seen as a major step toward promoting clean energy and supporting local livelihoods.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi laid the foundation stones for health and infrastructure projects worth Rs 6,300 crore in Mangaldoi, Darrang district. He had arrived in Assam on Saturday evening and also participated in the birth centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna awardee Bhupen Hazarika.
