Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) took centre stage during the 124th episode of PM Narendra Modi’s Mann ki Baat radio address on Sunday, July 27, with a special spotlight on its rich birdlife.
For the first time ever, a dedicated Grassland Bird Census was conducted at Kaziranga, and the Prime Minister lauded the use of advanced technology and artificial intelligence in this unique initiative. “You’ll be pleased to know that this census recorded over 40 species of birds, including many rare ones,” he said.
What made this census even more remarkable was its non-intrusive approach. PM Modi explained how sound recording devices were placed in the park to capture bird calls. These audio samples were then analysed using AI tools to accurately identify the species—without disturbing the birds or their habitat.
“This innovative method of identifying birds through their sounds marks a significant step in wildlife conservation,” the Prime Minister noted.
