Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, September 14, laid the foundation stones for a series of health and infrastructure projects worth Rs 6,300 crore in Assam’s Darrang district. Among the key initiatives launched were the construction of Darrang Medical College and Hospital, a nursing college, and a GNM school, with a combined investment of Rs 570 crore.

The Prime Minister also initiated two major connectivity projects — the 2.9 km-long Narengi-Kuruwa bridge over the Brahmaputra, estimated to cost Rs 1,200 crore, and the 118.5 km-long Guwahati Ring Road project, connecting Kamrup and Darrang districts in Assam with Ri Bhoi in Meghalaya, with a total cost of ₹4,530 crore. These projects aim to boost regional connectivity and ease traffic congestion.

Later in the day, PM Modi will inaugurate two major industrial projects at the Numaligarh Refinery in Golaghat district — a bamboo-based ethanol plant worth over Rs 5,000 crore and the Rs 7,230-crore Petro Fluidised Catalytic Cracker Unit — expected to significantly contribute to Assam’s energy and industrial growth.
