Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Mizoram and violence-hit Manipur on September 13, 2025, in a trip combining development initiatives with a significant political message.
In Mizoram, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Bairabi–Sairang railway line, the state’s first rail link to its capital Aizawl. The 51.38-km project, part of the Centre’s Act East Policy, will connect Aizawl to Assam’s Silchar, boosting connectivity, trade, and regional integration. Preparations are already underway in Aizawl, with Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena coordinating security, logistics, and public participation for the event.
Following the Mizoram visit, PM Modi is likely to fly to Manipur—his first visit to the state since ethnic clashes erupted in May 2023. The trip carries symbolic weight, though officials in Imphal have not yet received final confirmation of the itinerary.
This visit is seen as a strategic push for infrastructure development in the Northeast while also addressing the political and social challenges in Manipur.
