Prime Minister Narendra Modi has met Bangladesh Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on the sidelines of BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, Thailand

PM Narendra Modi met with Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor, Muhammad Yunus, on Friday, April 4, during the ongoing sixth BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, Thailand. This bilateral meeting comes after Dhaka had requested such a meeting to address ongoing issues, although Modi’s schedule for the summit did not initially include it.

The bilateral meeting between PM Modi and Chief Advisor Yunus comes amid rising diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh. These tensions were sparked by Yunus’s comments on India’s Northeastern states during his recent visit to the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) annual conference in China.

Relations between the two nations have also been strained over concerns regarding alleged violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, as well as India’s decision to grant asylum to Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

It may be mentioned that Modi and Yunus sat side by side during the official dinner hosted by the Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra for the visiting Heads of States and Head of Governments on April 3, attending the BIMSTEC summit in Bangkok.
