Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

PM Narendra Modi is set to visit China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, marking his first trip to the country since 2019.

The 25th SCO Heads of State Summit will be held in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1, 2025. This visit signals a significant step in easing India–China tensions, especially following the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes that severely strained bilateral relations. Ahead of the summit, diplomatic groundwork has been laid through recent high-level exchanges, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to Beijing and renewed cooperation on cross-border pilgrimages and trade.

A potential meeting between PM Modi and President Xi Jinping on the sidelines is being closely watched as a possible reset in their strategic dialogue.
