President Donald Trump has revoked the Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, effective September 1, 2025. This action terminates an extended security detail that had been authorized by former President Joe Biden beyond the standard six-month period allotted to former vice presidents.
The revocation comes just weeks before Harris embarks on a nationwide book tour to promote her memoir, 107 Days, with the first event scheduled in New York on September 24.
In a memorandum dated August 28, 2025, President Trump directed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to discontinue all security-related procedures previously authorized for Harris beyond those required by law. The decision has raised concerns about Harris’s safety during her upcoming public appearances.
This move follows a broader pattern in President Trump’s administration of withdrawing Secret Service protection from individuals perceived as political opponents, including former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and President Biden’s adult children. The only remaining individuals from the prior administration with Secret Service protection are President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, who are legally entitled to lifetime protection.
Harris has expressed gratitude to the Secret Service for their past service and has not publicly commented on the revocation. Her team is reportedly exploring alternative security arrangements as she prepares for her upcoming book tour.
