Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted PM Narendra Modi’s invitation to visit India later this year, according to a Reuters report citing the Kremlin. The two leaders reaffirmed that India-Russia relations remain resilient and unaffected by external pressures, and will continue to grow dynamically.
Earlier in the day, President Putin called PM Modi to express condolences and Russia’s full support in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. During the conversation, PM Modi extended greetings on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Russia’s Victory Day and formally invited Putin to attend the upcoming annual India-Russia summit.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared the updates on Putin and Modi’s call on X and said, “President Putin called PM Narendra Modi and strongly condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam, India. He conveyed deepest condolences on the loss of innocent lives and expressed full support to India in the fight against terrorism. He emphasised that the perpetrators of the heinous attack and their supporters must be brought to justice. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to further deepen Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.”
While Russia had invited PM Modi to participate in the Victory Day celebrations commemorating the Soviet Union’s triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II, the Indian leader will not travel to Moscow due to the current security concerns following the Pahalgam incident.
