Prime Minister Narendra Modi

As India marks Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on Thursday, August 14, PM Narendra Modi reflected on the immense suffering and displacement endured by millions during one of the darkest periods in the nation’s history. He recalled the mass exodus, where countless families were uprooted from their homes, and lakhs lost their lives in communal violence.

In a post on X, PM Modi described the day as a tribute to the resilience of those who faced “unimaginable loss” yet found the courage to rebuild their lives. He honoured their grit and determination, calling their stories an enduring source of inspiration.

Emphasising the importance of unity, the Prime Minister urged citizens to strengthen the bonds of harmony across the country. He said the observance serves as both a remembrance of past suffering and a reminder of the nation’s shared responsibility to preserve peace and solidarity.
