The Patna High Court on Wednesday, September 17, ordered the Congress to take down an AI-generated video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, Heeraben Modi, which had been circulated on social media by the party’s Bihar unit. Acting Chief Justice PB Bajantri directed that the video be removed from all social media platforms immediately.
The controversy stems from a video posted by the Bihar Congress unit on September 10, which depicted the Prime Minister dreaming of his late mother, who was shown criticising him over his political actions in poll-bound Bihar. The video quickly drew sharp reactions from political opponents.
The BJP and its NDA allies strongly condemned the video, calling it a “shameful” tactic to attack the Prime Minister. The Congress, however, defended its move, asserting that no disrespect was intended toward either PM Modi or his late mother.
