Indian cricketer Richa Ghosh has been appointed as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) by the West Bengal government following India’s 2025 Women’s World Cup victory. The announcement was made during a felicitation ceremony at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens on Saturday, attended by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, along with former cricket stars Sourav Ganguly and Jhulan Goswami. Richa’s parents were also present during the proud moment as she was honoured for her remarkable contribution to Indian cricket.
Alongside her new role, Richa was also conferred the Banga Bibhushan Award, West Bengal’s highest civilian honour, recognizing her achievements on and off the field. The wicketkeeper-batter played a crucial role in India’s World Cup campaign, finishing as the team’s fifth-highest run-scorer with 235 runs in eight innings, despite batting lower in the order. Her vital knocks — including a 24-ball 34 in the final against South Africa, a 16-ball 26 in the semifinal against Australia, and a match-saving 94 in the group stage — were instrumental in India’s path to glory.
Before the felicitation, the Indian women’s team met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu, who congratulated them for their historic feat. With the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 win, India ended their long wait for a global title, defeating South Africa in the final after posting 298/7, powered by Shafali Verma’s 87, Deepti Sharma’s 58, and a strong finishing cameo from Richa Ghosh.
