Rohit Sharma topples Shubman Gill to become number 1 ODI batter in ICC rankings

India captain Rohit Sharma has climbed to the top of the ICC ODI batting rankings, dethroning teammate Shubman Gill to become the world’s No. 1 batter.

Rohit’s rise comes on the back of consistent performances in the recent ODI series against Australia, where he scored 202 runs in three matches, including a match-winning century. His form has been instrumental in India’s dominance in the 50-over format this season.

Shubman Gill, who held the top spot since early 2024, slipped to second place, while Pakistan’s Babar Azam and South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen retained their positions in the top five.

This is Rohit’s first time since 2019 reclaiming the No. 1 ODI batter ranking, marking another milestone in his illustrious career. His achievement also highlights India’s strong presence in the ICC rankings, with multiple players among the world’s best across formats.
