Russia and Ukraine has reached an agreement to cease military strikes in the Black Sea and on energy sites during talks facilitated by the United States

In a significant diplomatic breakthrough amid the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, both nations have agreed to halt the use of force in the Black Sea. This agreement follows parallel talks with US officials in Saudi Arabia. However, Russia has made it clear that the maritime ceasefire will only be implemented if it receives sanctions relief for its agricultural exports.

The United States confirmed the deal, stating that discussions in Riyadh focused on ensuring safe navigation in the Black Sea. American diplomats held separate discussions with both Russian and Ukrainian representatives, with the White House later releasing joint statements outlining the commitments.

According to the US, the agreement will guarantee safe navigation, prohibit the use of force, and prevent commercial vessels from being used for military purposes in the region.

While the full details of the deal remain undisclosed, it is viewed as a revival of the 2022 UN and Turkey-brokered agreement that previously allowed the safe passage of Ukrainian exports through Black Sea ports. That agreement collapsed in 2023 after Russia withdrew, citing concerns about the security of its own exports.
