The Supreme Court on Thursday, August 14, reserved its verdict on petitions challenging its August 11 order, which instructed authorities to capture all stray dogs in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), according to Bar and Bench. The Bench, comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and NV Anjaria, did not grant any immediate stay on its previous directions to municipal bodies.
During the proceedings, the court sought clarification from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) regarding its position on the issue. The Bench emphasized the importance of understanding the local authority’s stance before moving forward with a final decision.
Justice Vikram Nath highlighted the ongoing inaction, noting, “This is happening because of the inaction of the Municipal Corporation. The government does nothing. The local authorities do nothing.” He stressed that the local bodies were failing to perform their responsibilities and must take accountability for the situation.
