Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer’s parents have applied for an urgent visa to travel to Australia after the batter was hospitalised in Sydney following an injury during the third ODI against Australia.
Iyer, who suffered a spleen laceration after an awkward fall while fielding, was taken to a local hospital, where he is currently under medical observation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that his condition remains stable, but his recovery could take time given the seriousness of the injury.
According to reports, Iyer’s parents sought emergency travel clearance to be by their son’s side as he undergoes treatment. Meanwhile, the BCCI’s medical team has stayed back in Sydney to monitor his progress.
Iyer’s injury occurred during India’s win in the Sydney ODI when he landed heavily on his left side while attempting a catch. Scans later revealed internal bleeding near the spleen, prompting doctors to admit him for precautionary care.
The 30-year-old Mumbai batter’s participation in the upcoming T20I series against Australia now looks doubtful as doctors have advised complete rest.
