Shubman Gill became third Indian batter to score over 700 runs in Test series

India captain Shubman Gill etched his name into the record books on Sunday, July 27, becoming the first Indian skipper to score over 700 runs in an away Test series. The landmark achievement came during the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 against England.

At just 25, Gill joined an elite group of captains to have crossed the 700-run mark in a single Test series — a list that includes legends like Sir Don Bradman (who achieved the feat twice), Sir Garfield Sobers, Greg Chappell, Sunil Gavaskar, David Gower, Graham Gooch, and Graeme Smith.

Gill also became only the third Indian batter in history to breach the 700-run mark in a Test series, following in the footsteps of Sunil Gavaskar and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The milestone was sealed during a gritty second-innings knock at Old Trafford, where Gill played a crucial role in steadying India’s innings after an early collapse. Coming into the fourth Test, the stylish right-hander had already amassed 619 runs in seven innings, including a career-best 269 at Edgbaston.
