Shubman Gill has been named Team India's new ODI captain, taking over from Rohit Sharma.

India has appointed Shubman Gill as the new captain for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, starting October 19. The announcement was made by chief selector Ajit Agarkar during a press conference in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

Rohit Sharma, who led India to victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy, remains in the squad but will no longer serve as captain. Former captain Virat Kohli also returns to the ODI setup following a short break after the IPL 2025 season. Shreyas Iyer has been named vice-captain for the series, reflecting his leadership experience and consistent performances.
