Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, criticized the United States for what he called “bully” tactics in global trade. He noted that while the US had long enjoyed the benefits of free trade, it was now resorting to tariffs as bargaining tools, imposing duties of up to 50% on Indian goods. Xu stressed that China firmly opposed such measures and warned that silence in the face of such actions would only embolden Washington. He also assured that China would stand firmly with India on this issue.
Highlighting the potential of deeper trade ties, Xu said that China was ready to open its markets wider for Indian goods. He emphasized that India holds strong competitiveness in sectors such as IT, software, and biomedicine, while China is rapidly advancing in electronic manufacturing, infrastructure development, and new energy.
Xu concluded that closer economic cooperation between the two nations would create a multiplier effect, where the combined strengths of the Indian and Chinese markets would generate growth and opportunities far greater than their individual contributions, describing it as “one plus one bigger than two.”
