Singer Zubeen Garg tragically died on September 19 in Singapore while swimming in the sea, prompting an ongoing investigation by both Assam and Singapore police authorities.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that Singapore police authorities will meet with a Special Investigating Team (SIT) from Assam Police, led by ADGP Munna Gupta, on October 21 as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of Zubeen Garg.

CM Sarma described the meeting as “another step forward towards justice for our beloved Zubeen” and reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring a thorough investigation. “Our team will travel to Singapore on 20th October accordingly. Our collective resolve remains — Justice for Zubeen will prevail (sic),” Sarma wrote on X.

Garg, a cultural icon from Assam, tragically died in Singapore on September 19, allegedly while swimming, a day before he was scheduled to perform at the Northeast India Festival. Following his death, Assam Police registered a case of unnatural death.

The accused in the case include event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, suspended APS officer Sandipan Garg, and two police security officers, Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya. Singapore authorities have also shared the autopsy report and preliminary findings with the Indian High Commission in Singapore.

The upcoming meeting is expected to strengthen cooperation between Singapore and Assam police, facilitate the exchange of critical evidence, and ensure justice in the case.
