Smriti Mandhana becomes second Indian to register 1000 runs against Australia in women’s ODIs

India’s star opener Smriti Mandhana achieved a historic milestone during India’s Women’s World Cup 2025 clash against Australia, becoming only the second Indian cricketer to reach the landmark of 5,000 runs in Women’s One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

Mandhana reached the milestone while playing a fluent innings against the reigning champions, cementing her place among the modern greats of women’s cricket. She joins Mithali Raj, the former India captain, as the only other Indian woman to cross the 5,000-run mark in ODIs.

The 29-year-old left-hander reached the feat in just 141 innings, making her the fastest Indian woman to achieve it. Her innings once again showcased her consistency and ability to deliver in high-pressure matches.

This latest achievement adds to Mandhana’s glittering record, which already includes multiple centuries across formats and a reputation as one of the most stylish and reliable top-order batters in the world.

Mandhana’s performance also played a crucial role in India’s spirited fight against Australia as the team continues its quest for a place in the Women’s World Cup final.
