Ishan Kishan scored his first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) century on Sunday, smashing an impressive unbeaten 106 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday, March 23. Playing his debut match for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the former Mumbai Indians (MI) player reached the three-figure mark in just 45 balls.
Coming in after the dismissal of Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, who was released by MI last year, made a strong statement with his powerful batting. The left-hander initially put together an 85-run partnership for the second wicket with Travis Head, followed by a 72-run stand with Nitish Kumar Reddy for the third wicket and a 56-run collaboration with South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen for the fourth wicket.
At 86 off 42 balls, Ishan Kishan launched two consecutive sixes off Sandeep Sharma in the 19th over and sealed his maiden IPL century with a double on the last ball of the same over.
With this achievement, Ishan Kishan became the first Indian to score an IPL century for SRH. “It was coming for a while. I wanted to get this last season, but I’m happy to have made my first hundred now. The team has placed their faith in me, and I want to do my best for them,” said Ishan Kishan after his knock.
While Ishan Kishan celebrated on the field, off the field, SRH CEO Kavya Maran was the most thrilled person in the stands.
