The Government of Assam has declared state mourning from 20th to 22nd September following the tragic demise of Zubeen Garg, the legendary singer, filmmaker, and cultural icon.
Garg, 52, passed away in Singapore on September 19, 2025, during a yacht trip when he was found floating in the sea after swimming without a life jacket. Lifeguards had warned him to wear the safety gear. His death has sent shockwaves across Assam and beyond.
In response, the Assam government has directed the CID to investigate multiple FIRs filed in connection with his death, ensuring a consolidated inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
During the mourning period, all official entertainment, dinners, and ceremonial functions are suspended. SevaSaptah events involving ceremonial activities or distribution of benefits have been postponed, while service-oriented programs such as health camps, NikshayMitra support for TB patients, and plantation drives will continue.
Zubeen Garg’s passing leaves a deep void in Assam’s cultural and musical landscape, with tributes pouring in from fans, leaders, and fellow artists.
