The Assam government issued an advisory for the people of the State not to venture out unless absolutely essential

The Assam government has issued a heavy rain alert for the state, with persistent rainfall expected over the next two to three days. Guwahati has already recorded over 110 mm of rainfall in several areas on Tuesday, May 20, and more showers could lead to severe waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and the risk of landslides, especially in vulnerable regions.

In light of the ongoing weather conditions, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) of Assam posted a statement on X (formerly Twitter) urging residents to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow official updates for further guidance.

The CMO emphasized the need for caution as the heavy rain continues to affect daily life across the state. Waterlogging has already caused major disruptions in several areas of Guwahati, while traffic delays have worsened, making travel challenging for commuters.

Authorities have been placed on high alert, and emergency measures are being implemented to mitigate the impact of the weather, including monitoring the situation in flood-prone areas and clearing stormwater drains to facilitate the swift evacuation of excess rainwater.

With more rainfall forecasted, officials have urged residents to stay informed about the evolving situation and adhere to safety protocols. The authorities are working to ensure swift responses to any weather-related incidents that may arise in the coming days.
