In a historic move, the Supreme Court has introduced a reservation policy for Scheduled Castes (15%) and Scheduled Tribes (7.5%) in the recruitment and promotion of non-judicial staff.
Effective from June 23, 2025, the policy applies to administrative roles such as Registrar, Court Assistants, and Attendants. Judicial appointments remain excluded.
The decision was approved under Chief Justice Gavai, marking the first time the apex court has aligned with public institutions on affirmative action.
