Parvathaneni Harish, India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

India firmly rejected Pakistan’s renewed attempts to internationalise the Kashmir issue and object to the Indus Waters Treaty during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) session. Responding to remarks made by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador P Harish, exposed what he described as Pakistan’s duplicity on matters of terrorism and international peace.

Dar, addressing the Council, described Kashmir as an “internationally recognised disputed territory” and criticized India’s recent stance on the Indus Waters Treaty as “regrettable and unjustified.” He called upon the UN to push for a resolution on Kashmir based on what he termed “relevant Security Council resolutions.”

India, in a strong rebuttal, highlighted the contrast between the two countries. Ambassador Harish described India as a mature democracy and inclusive society, while labelling Pakistan as a nation “steeped in fanaticism and terrorism” and “a serial borrower from the IMF.” He emphasized the importance of a universal commitment to zero tolerance for terrorism and cautioned against nations preaching peace while simultaneously engaging in unacceptable practices—an indirect but pointed reference to Pakistan’s alleged support for terrorism.
