Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh speaking at an event in Bengaluru.

Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, on Saturday, August 9, appeared to indirectly target Congress MP Rahul Gandhi while speaking about Operation Sindoor. He said the mission had given India’s defence forces the opportunity to present clear proof of the damage inflicted on Pakistan — a chance they did not have after the 2019 Balakot strike. According to him, Operation Sindoor had finally “taken care of that ghost” lingering since Balakot.

His remarks came in the backdrop of Opposition criticism, with leaders including Rahul Gandhi questioning the government’s handling of Operation Sindoor. They have sought transparency on the number of terrorists killed and alleged that political directives had curtailed the Indian Air Force’s operational scope during the mission.

On Saturday, Air Chief Marshal Singh shared detailed evidence to demonstrate the extent of damage caused to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. The presentation was seen as a rebuttal to doubts raised by the Opposition and an assertion of the Air Force’s operational success.
