A man in Tripura was murdered by a love rival and his body was hidden in an ice-cream freezer

A 26-year-old man from Indranagar in Agartala, Tripura, was reported missing and later found murdered, allegedly due to a love triangle involving a doctor and a woman.

His body was discovered stuffed in a trolley bag, which was hidden inside an ice-cream freezer in Gandacherra market in Dhalai district, around 120 km from Agartala.

According to police, the murder was orchestrated by Dr. Dibakar Saha (28), who was allegedly jealous of Sariful’s relationship with Nabanita Das (25) — a woman who is not only Sariful’s romantic interest but also Saha’s cousin.

On June 8, Dibakar reportedly lured Sariful to the home of his friend Joydeep Das (20) under the guise of presenting him with a gift. Once there, Sariful was allegedly attacked and strangled by Dibakar, Joydeep, Animesh Yadav (21), and Nabanita herself.

The group then packed the body into a trolley bag, which had been purchased two days prior in preparation for the crime.

The following morning, Dibakar’s parents, Dipak and Debika Saha, travelled from Gandacherra to Agartala. They collected the bag containing Sariful’s body and took it back to their ice-cream shop in Gandacherra, where it was hidden inside a freezer.

Digital evidence, including mobile messages, confirmed that romantic jealousy was the primary motive behind the premeditated murder.

The accused are set to be produced in court on Thursday, as the investigation continues into what authorities are calling one of the most disturbing murders in recent memory in the region.
