A fire erupted at the top of an administrative building in Kyiv’s Pecherskyi district after a Russian attack on the city, according to Timur Tkachenko, head of the capital’s military administration. Thick smoke was seen rising from the main government building, witnesses told Reuters, as emergency services rushed to contain the damage.
Ukrainian officials reported that three people, including an infant, were killed in the overnight assault, while 18 others were injured. Multiple buildings across Kyiv, including the government’s headquarters, were set ablaze during the strikes. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that the attack began with waves of drones before missile strikes followed.
Klitschko said the drone bombardment killed the infant and a young woman, while a pregnant woman was among five hospitalised. In a separate incident, an elderly woman died in a bomb shelter in the Darnytskyi district, located east of the Dnipro River, bringing the total fatalities from the night’s assault to three.
