An overnight Ukrainian drone strike triggered a massive fire at an oil depot near Russia’s Black Sea resort city of Sochi, Russian officials confirmed on Sunday, August 3, amid escalating cross-border attacks between the two countries. The blaze erupted after debris from a downed drone hit a fuel tank, according to Krasnodar regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev.
Over 120 firefighters were deployed to battle the flames, as dramatic videos circulating on social media showed thick plumes of smoke rising over the facility. In response to the incident, Russia’s civil aviation authority, Rosaviatsia, temporarily suspended operations at Sochi Airport as a precaution.
Meanwhile, further north in Russia’s Voronezh region, authorities reported that four civilians were injured in a separate Ukrainian drone strike, highlighting the widening reach and impact of the ongoing conflict.
