Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli has recently made headlines due to his ongoing financial struggles and health issues. Kambli, who represented India in 104 ODIs and 17 Tests, and was a childhood friend of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, has been battling multiple illnesses.

In December 2024, he was hospitalized at Akruti Hospital in Thane due to severe cramping and a urinary infection. During this challenging time, Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian cricket great, has stepped forward to support Kambli.

Gavaskar, who had made a commitment to assist Kambli when the memorial for late coach Ramakant Achrekar was inaugurated in Shivaji Park, Mumbai, has kept his promise. According to recent reports, Gavaskar’s CHAMPS Foundation will provide Kambli with financial aid of Rs 30,000 per month, as well as an additional Rs 30,000 annually for his medical expenses.

In January, Gavaskar and Kambli met during the 50th anniversary celebrations at Wankhede Stadium, further solidifying their bond. Meanwhile, Kambli’s wife, Andrea Hewitt, revealed that she had initially filed for divorce in 2023, but decided to withdraw her decision after seeing her husband’s vulnerable condition.
