India has decided not to participate in the semifinal clash against Pakistan in the ongoing World Championship of Legends (WCL) in Birmingham. The decision comes in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which has heightened diplomatic tensions between the two nations. The Indian side has reiterated its long-standing policy of refraining from bilateral sporting engagements with Pakistan under such circumstances.
The team, comprising cricketing greats like Shikhar Dhawan, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, and Suresh Raina, conveyed their collective unwillingness to take the field against Pakistan. Their decision is seen as a show of solidarity with national sentiment and the families affected by the attack, which prompted India to launch ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response.
This isn’t the first time India has taken such a stance during the WCL tournament. The Indian team had earlier refused to play a group-stage match against Pakistan, maintaining its consistent position on severing sporting ties until cross-border terrorism is effectively addressed.
