Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi won widespread applause during a recent address in Madrid, where she is leading an Indian multi-party delegation to Spain as part of the post-Operation Sindoor global outreach programme.
Responding to a question on India’s national language, Kanimozhi said, “The national language of India is unity and diversity. That is the message this delegation brings to the world, and that is the most important thing today.”
Her remark struck a chord with the Indian diaspora present at the event and served as a powerful reaffirmation of the country’s pluralistic ethos. It also subtly underscored the DMK’s continued opposition to the Centre’s three-language formula under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which the party has long criticised as being exclusionary.
The visit is part of a broader diplomatic initiative to reinforce India’s global partnerships in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, while also promoting a united domestic front and India’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism. Kanimozhi’s emphasis on inclusivity and linguistic diversity was seen as both a cultural message and a political statement, reflective of India’s democratic spirit.
