Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday, September 24, announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the sudden and untimely death of iconic singer Zubeen Garg. The Chief Minister emphasized that the probe would leave “no stone unturned” and would be conducted with “complete professional integrity.”
Sarma stated that he convened a high-level meeting with the Director General of Police (DGP), Additional DGP (CID), Chief Secretary, and other senior officials to assess the situation. Following the discussion, he directed the DGP to immediately set up an SIT composed of the “best officers of Assam Police” to carry out the investigation.
He also revealed that viscera samples from the singer would be sent to the Central Forensic Laboratory (CFL) in New Delhi for a detailed examination. Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19 while swimming in Singapore with friends and colleagues.
