CEC Gyanesh Kumar made the remarks during his visit to his alma mater Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur on Sunday, November 2.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Sunday, November 2, affirmed that the Election Commission maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards violence, days ahead of the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for November 6. His statement came after the arrest of a JD(U) candidate in connection with a murder case. Kumar stressed that no incident of violence will be tolerated during the election process.

Speaking to reporters in Kanpur, he urged the people of Bihar to come out and vote peacefully. He said the Election Commission is fully prepared to ensure a safe and fair polling environment. “I appeal to everyone to participate and exercise their right to vote. The Election Commission has zero tolerance for violence, and we are committed to ensuring peaceful voting,” he said. He added that 243 returning officers, district collectors, police personnel including SPs, SSPs and observers are all in place and ready.

Gyanesh Kumar made these comments during his visit to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, where he was conferred with the Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA). His remarks aimed to reassure voters and reinforce the Election Commission’s commitment to maintaining law and order during the polls.
