Zubeen Garg, the iconic Assamese singer known for his soulful voice and contributions to Indian music, tragically passed away on September 19, 2025, at the age of 52.

Veteran Bengali actor Victor Bannerjee, known for his work in films by Satyajit Ray and David Lean, recently announced a Hindi film titled Chakra, directed by the late singer Zubeen Garg. In addition to directing, Zubeen also played a lead role in the political thriller. Bannerjee reflected on their collaboration, saying, “I just completed his film with Zubeen, where he is also my co-star. It will be released next month. I enjoyed watching him act as much as the world enjoys him singing. Zubeen was a great son of our soil.”

Victor Bannerjee expressed deep sorrow over Zubeen’s untimely demise, stating, “I shall miss him. What a waste of greatness! The heavens are intoxicated with his charm now. May he stay singing in peace.” He also revealed that he shared a close friendship with Zubeen, and that the upcoming film will be released as a tribute to the late singer.

Zubeen Garg tragically passed away on September 19, 2025, during a scuba diving accident in Singapore, and his mortal remains have been brought back to India. Fans from across Assam have gathered in Guwahati to pay their final respects to the beloved singer, who performed over 38,000 songs in more than 40 languages and dialects over a career spanning more than three decades.
