Cultural icon Zubeen Garg's ashes were immersed in the Brahmaputra River by his wife Garima on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

The ashes of legendary Assamese singer, actor, and cultural icon Zubeen Garg were immersed in the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati, fulfilling his final wish. His wife, Garima Garg, performed the last rites at Lachit Ghat, where family members, admirers, and prominent cultural figures gathered to pay their respects. The emotional ceremony reflected the immense love and reverence that people across Assam and beyond held for “Zubeen Da.”

Zubeen Garg, whose artistic journey spanned music, cinema, composition, and social activism, had earlier expressed his desire for his mortal remains to be consigned to the Brahmaputra — a river deeply woven into the spiritual and cultural fabric of Assam. His wish symbolized his lifelong connection to the land, its people, and its traditions, resonating deeply with his fans who viewed him as the true voice of Assamese identity.

Following his cremation with full state honours, the immersion marked the final farewell to one of Assam’s most beloved sons. As the Brahmaputra carried his ashes downstream, it became a powerful metaphor for his enduring legacy — a voice and spirit that continue to flow through the heart of Assam’s music, art, and collective memory.
